Ulceration of Unknown Cause (Vasculitis; Shwartzman Phenomenon; Autoerythrocyte Disease; Pyoderma Gangrenosum?). Presented DR. HOWARD S. YAFFEE.

A woman, aged 51, underwent minor surgery for removal of a cyst on the ear lobe 5 years ago. Postoperatively secondary infection with abscess formation developed. This was treated with antibiotics, and she states that she received over 200 injections of these. She then developed ulcerative areas at the sites of injection and large similar areas on the arms, legs, and trunk. These ulcerations have apparently progressed. Healing has followed numerous therapeutic measures, from hot showers and open dressings to surgical debridement. The patient says that she has been hospitalized for a total of about 5 years during reconstructive attempts.

The only treatment at present is local cleansing and the use of antibiotic ointment. Her dressings take about 3 hours daily by a special nurse.
