Discoid Lupus Erythematosus with Peculiar Pigmentation. Presented by DR. THOMAS BUTTERWORTH and DR. JOHN E. GERMAN.

The patient was seen initially on March 10, 1944, with atrophic areas over both eyebrows and scattered regions of the scalp. These had gradually appeared over several years' time and showed inflammation, crusting, and scaling. This patient has had vesicular and bullous changes in these areas from time to time also. Atabrine, 100 mg. t.i.d., was started on Jan. 2, 1953, and used intermittently since. On June 29, 1956, the patient developed bilateral patchy pigmentation of the anterior legs extending to the dorsum of the feet. On Aug. 18, 1961, a lavender-blue color of the proximal two-thirds of the patient's fingernails and toenails was noted. There is a similar pigmentation of the alae nasae and hard palate.
