This is the second edition of a volume which has become the standard treatise on muscle disease. It has achieved this position of eminence because the book contains more information than the title implies; in addition to histological changes, the clinical, physiological, and biochemical aspects of these diseases are presented clearly and concisely. All disorders affecting muscle, directly or indirectly, have been included. In addition, a large section of the book is devoted to the development, form, and function of normal muscle. There is a rich bibliography for each section and it is quite up-to-date.

All three of the authors have made important contributions to the study of muscle and muscle disease. Their discussions in this book reflect extensive experience and a thoughtful approach. Differences of opinion are presented frankly.
