Lupus Erythematosus With Renal Involvement, Aseptic Necrosis of the Hips, and Leg Ulcers. Presented by EDMUND L. DUBOIS, MD.

A 42-year-old female first developed thromphlebitis in March, 1957. In December, 1958, she developed fever, arthralgia, leukopenia, and weakness. LE preparations were positive at this time. Treatment was started with steroids. In May, 1959, she was hospitalized with renal failure, bilateral pleural effusions, and a pericardial effusion. In June, 1959, she had an acute toxic reaction with nausea, vomiting, fever, and a butterfly eruption following sun exposure. In January, 1961, she had a grand mal seizure. During the summer of 1961 she began having pain in the right hip. The pain increased in severity, and soon after she began having gait difficulties which have progressed. Serial radiological studies demonstrated aseptic necrosis. In July, 1962, it was noted that her skin was markedly atrophic. In November, 1962, she developed bilateral leg ulcers . . .
