Scrofuloderma. Presented by DR. WILLIAM B. REED, and DR. DENNY LEE TUFFANELLI.

Patient.—

The patient was age 74, female.

June, 1962.—

Development of painful nodule of left supraclavicular area. No previous illness of lungs or skin. Chronic urethritis, 1961.

July, 1962.—

Lung x-rays negative. STS negative. Biopsy of neck, nonspecific granulomatous cellulitis. AFB and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) stains negative for organisms. Cultures negative.

Dec, 1962.—

Had developed a draining sinus on left side of neck which despite antibiotic therapy had refused to heal. Patient had been afebrile, but weight loss noted. New cultures, negative for TB and fungus. Staphylococcus aureus found. Hemogram normal. New biopsy again revealed granulomatous cellulitis with necrosis. ENT examination negative. Incision and drainage of another nodule on neck. Radiation therapy given to nodes on neck because of questionable malignancy.

Jan, 1963.—
