To the Editor:

I have just read the paper, "Circumileostomy Skin Difficulties," by McNamara and my friend Eugene Farber. I am interested in their findings with karaya gum, of which I have not heard before. I thought that perhaps they and your readers might be interested to hear of a preparation with which I have had excellent results for the same condition and which I have found to be of inestimable value in those cases of pruritus ani where an irritating, though insensible, anal secretion produces or potentiates the irritation. The formula is as follows and is applied twice daily or as required: Aluminium hydroxide gr. XX, Pulv. tragacanth gr. XII, Glycerine dram II and Aqua ad oz. I (British Pharmacopoeia).
