Chronic Disseminated Lupus Erythematosus and Calcinosis Cutis. Presented by DRS. DAVID I. KABIR and ALLAN L. LORINCZ.
This 20-year-old white woman was seen for the first time on June 23, 1964, with the presenting complaint of hard cutaneous nodules on the arms and hands and scarring erythematous lesions on the face and elsewhere. For the first time, eight years ago, she developed a half-dollar sized, stone-hard nodule on the left elbow. This was excised and found to contain calcium, but recurred three years later and extended down the extensor aspect of the left arm. At the time of consultation, calcific nodules were found on the left arm, left thumb, right thumb, and right index finger. About a year ago, she developed red macules on both upper arms. These lesions later oozed and then healed with atrophy and scarring. Similar skin lesions subsequently spread to the back, legs, palms and face.
