ARBITRARILY, continuing medical education has been defined as the education or training received by physicians after the attainment of professional qualification. Of necessity, this will involve physicians at many levels of educational attainment. Some will have completed no more than medical school and internship, while others may have had several years of residency training, even including an advanced degree. Some will have only recently completed their training, and in many aspects may be more up to date than some of their instructors, whereas, others will have completed their training 40 years ago and for them, not only will newer facts have to be taught, but in addition, it may be necessary to outline a whole new vocabulary in order that they may understand the facts presented to them.
